Yesterday was the first day back to school for the kids in the neighborhood. I had my two year old watch as the bus pulled up to pick up the kids. I then proceeded to explain that he will be doing the same thing some day. With a serious face and the shaking of his head he said, “Mama, I no go yet.” I could see the fear of not being ready to do this. I then told him that was ok, because we have lots of time before you need to take your first step onto that big bus.

I think this is true for the many of us that lead others at work, in organizations, or just in our own family life. We need to prepare others to feel comfortable to do things we may ask them to do.
