About 10 years ago, years before he passed away, my Grandfather gave me a necklace of his that he was passing down to me so that I someday could pass it down to my children. It is a cherished gift from someone who was very influential in my life. Well, a few years ago, I thought I lost it! I was devastated. I looked and looked, but could not find it. I gave up hope. Fast forward to last weekend. My wife, Meredith, and I were getting ready for an event and I mentioned to her that I really wished I still had that necklace from Grandpa Burt because it meant so much to me. She looked at me and said, “I think it’s in one of the jewelry boxes on the dresser”. I responded, “I don’t believe it. I lost it years ago!” She was adamant that it was in one of them, so I started looking and found it in the second box I looked in! I was totally blown away and relieved at the same time. So, I tell Meredith she does not know how much this means to me. And she responds, “Well, all you had to do was ask me”. Wow! That hit home like a ton of bricks. Seems so simple, but something that I think we need reminding of from time to time. If you need help or something is bothering you, just ask! Our support systems are all around us for a reason. To be there for us when we need them.
I was reminded of this again, just yesterday, during a speech by Chris Elliot, managing director of About Me International. He was speaking to one of our clients and training them how to get the best out of the people they lead by using their About Me Cards. The bottom line was, “Just ask!” Their About Me Card will tell you a lot about how to treat them and if you need some clarification, just ask! It’s amazing how simple the idea is, but how powerful it really is.
Same thing goes when developing an ad campaign for one of our clients. That’s why, while we take out clients through the Prophit Marketing process, we go through Uncovery .We ASK employees and owners, what makes their company so great. They will tell us. It’s our job to get them the credit they deserve. We don’t just tell them what we think is right. It is much more powerful and lasting way to get their message out.
